Langport is an ancient market town in the heart of the Somerset levels. There is a great sense of community spirit and with picturesque walks, boating on the river, thriving cafes and interesting independent shops it’s a great place to work and live. Staff members often go for walks (or runs) together at lunchtime across the Somerset levels.

About Langport Surgery

Langport Surgery is an integral part of the community. We serve a population of over 13,000 patients across a wide geographical area. To support our patients we offer a variety of services and clinics and we work closely with other practices in our Primary Care Network (PCN) to deliver shared services, such as a paramedic home visiting service, extended hours and we employ a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to support all 7 of our PCN practices.

We have a large team of over 50 staff including a salaried and associate GP, nurse practitioners, ECPs, a highly skilled nursing and HCA team, secretaries, reception and administrative staff, dispensers, cleaners and a caretaker. The current management team consists of a Business Manager, Dispensary Manager, Operation’s Manager and an Office/Data Quality Manager. The 5 GP Partners have worked together for the past 12 years, resulting in a stable and settled practice.

We are well regarded in the community our patients appreciate the service we provide. We receive a plentiful supply of feedback from patients to endorse this and we have an active Patient Participation Group. We have a newly implemented online consultations system, allowing full triage, giving the clinicians more flexibility over their day and a variety of ways to help patients in an efficient way.

Due to the covid pandemic things have been more difficult this year; however we look forward to being able to all have coffee together again. We have embraced technology and working from home, striking a balance to keep staff safe and to protect the service we provide. We all have a sense of humour and we share the same underpinning values to deliver a professional and safe service to our population of patients.

We are committed to developing and improving quality. We have a strong focus on training and development and we equip our team with the skills and knowledge to be successful. We develop trainee doctors & physician associates and we have an ‘excellent’ rating for doing so. Staff have been supported through many qualifications including diplomas, prescribing certificates, apprenticeships and job specific training.
