What is an Online Consultation?

It’s a way to send a secure message to your doctor to request help or advice or tell them about your problem. You no longer need to wait for an appointment to do this.

You can ask another member of the team a general question, about a fit note or letter etc.

The doctor may be able to deal with your query online, by replying to your question or they may need to book you a telephone or face to face appointment

Why have we changed the way you contact your doctor?

We have a growing team of clinical and support staff and by working in this way we can ensure all patients are directed to the best person to help them, in the most efficient way.

The new system will allow more time with the doctor when your problem is complex and simple queries can be managed quickly and efficiently sometimes with a phone or video call or a reply online to your query. This will reduce the need for patients to come to the surgery unnecessarily, freeing up car parking space and consulting rooms.

What do I need to do now?

Please register in full. Follow the prompts to register by clicking on ‘Online consultations’ at the top of the home page (top left). Here you can sign up and be ready for whenever you might need to start an online consultation.

Use the handy guides below to help you register and submit your query

  • We aim to deal with all queries on the day, so contact us on a day you are available. You can add comments about your availability
  • If you would like to contact a particular doctor please send your query in on a day that doctor works (usual working days)
  • Submit your query online via our website from 6am
  • You will not be able to submit a query after 4pm. If you have an urgent medical emergency after 4pm you should contact our reception team
  • If you can't submit your query online please call reception who can do this for you
  • If you need to be seen we will contact you and ask you to come in
  • All queries are sent to the duty doctor who will decide how to direct your query
  • You can also submit administrative queries online at any time
  • If you need to see a nurse or healthcare assistant you can book your appointment as normal, in advance, by booking online or by calling reception.
  • If you have a query for the nurse which may not need an appointment you can submit this online.

How long until I hear back?

All medical queries are reviewed by a doctor you can expect a response on the same day in most cases. Replies for administrative queries are usually within 48 hours.

Improving continuity

It is much better if your usual doctor can help you if you have an ongoing issue. They will have a better understanding of your problem and history.

If your usual doctor is on leave we will direct your query to another member of the team. If you have submitted your query on a day your usual doctor is not normally in we will ask you to resubmit it on a day when they are able to help you, so please check the list of working days before submitting your query.
